This month, Beach Bunny released a searing new single titled “Painkiller,” which details the aftermath of a heartbreak through vicious yet danceable guitar riffs and clean, unwavering vocals. Chicago native Lili Trifilio began releasing music under the moniker Beach Bunny in 2015, with the debut solo EP Animalism. Since then, she has made a name for herself in Chicago’s DIY scene and has recruited a full band to round out her surf-rock inspired indie songs.

Your Smith (FKA Caroline Smith) released the single “Bad Habit,” which is also the title of her forthcoming EP, out on August 24. The singer cut her teeth in Minneapolis and now lives in Los Angeles. “Bad Habit” is the second single released under the name Your Smith.

Two Minneapolis bands, Wetter and Tony Peachka, released their final albums this month in anticipation of singer/guitarist Melissa Jones’s move to Colorado. Jones formed Wetter while in college, and the band’s final album, Late Bloomer, showcases songs that she has written since the age of 19. Tony Peachka released their debut EP, Dirty Knees, in 2016, and have since brought their jangly, wry indie pop to venues across the Twin Cities. (Tony Peachka’s final album, Goodbye Tony, is not available on Spotify, but you can listen to it on Bandcamp using the player below.)
